Color at Night no. 10
Color at Night no. 10
Darkroom Chromogenic Print
11 (w) x 14 (h) inches

During my junior year at Alfred University I embarked on a project to explore space and color. Over the course of six weeks I traveled around Alfred at night searching for particular spaces that I felt had the right dynamic. Upon finding the right space, I set up a medium format camera on a tripod and exposed several rolls of film. As the exposures were quite long – around 30 minutes in most instances – I was able to "paint" the scene with light. I applied light from flashlights, equipped with different colored gels, to specific areas in the space. This effect, combined with the ambient color that is recorded during nighttime, creates a new context for each of these scenes.

These images were shot on Kodak Ektar Film and printed on Fujifilm Crystal Archive RA-4 paper. Due to the lack of dedicated film scanner, they are scanned from original prints.
