Traditionally, my father proudly displays his work inside people’s homes. Illuminated by the light of day, his ceramic vessels reveal elegance and possibility, and they soon become treasured pieces of the household’s design. But in passing these beautiful forms during the twilight, they wane and glow, their shape obscured. Under the still of night I explore these transformations against different materials. I mold their form with light as my father did with his hands, umbrageous designs filling the borders of my frame. After each session I take these creations, recorded on film, and process them in a darkroom. I find this process an interesting analogue to the origin of the vessels themselves. Born in the darkness of a kiln lit by flame, they are reborn on a silver paper exposed to light. This continuous chemical action, from inception to recreation, inspires my vision.
